Google unveiled its game streaming service called Stadia earlier this week. The service will enable users to stream games in the Chrome browser, through Chromecast, and on Pixel smartphones. Since everything is powered by Google’s massive cloud structure, it will be possible to play console-level games on a smartphone. Streaming such games would obviously require a good internet connection and Google has now revealed the Stadia internet speed requirement.

Google Stadia boss Phil Harrison told Kotaku that in order to stream games at 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second, it’s recommended to have approximately 25 megabits per second. Stadia uses less than this but this is where Google is placing its recommended limit at.

Stadia is actually capable of streaming games in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. Harrison said that in order to hit those figures, it’s recommended to have 30 megabits per second of internet speed. Players will get a lower resolution if they have less bandwidth and Stadia will only offer up the appropriate resolution for the bandwidth players have.

Since Stadia doesn’t require a set-top box or a console, the easiest way to play on your TV would be through a Chromecast dongle. Users will also be able to stream games in the Google Chrome browser in mere seconds and it will be possible to stream titles on a Google Pixel smartphones as well.

Stadia will be launched in the coming months. Google says that it will reveal information about the pricing in the summer this year.
